Do you want to get more coaching clients?

I've been there myself ; when I first trained as a coach and NLP practitioner, I kept hearing people telling me that I needed to be realistic and that it was very difficult to make a living out of it. 

But that didn't feel right. I had a deep sense that it was possible, even if most of my fellow students resigned to the idea that they would have to do coaching "on the side".

I decided that I was simply not going to give myself a choice ; that I was going to make it work. And right then, the credit crunch in 2008 hit. I managed to retain the few clients I had but things were getting very slow - and I was increasingly worried about my lack of income. After all, I hadn't yet developed my practise fully and initially I didn't manage to get more clients. That's when I started to consider giving up and going for my plan B which was getting a job at Sainsbury's...

But things started to turn around. My existing clients casually mentioned having issues in their relationships, so we started to work on them. And I realised that no matter what they had initially brought up to work on, at some point we always ended up discussing their relationships. I became intrigued and did more research on this topic I found fascinating. I trained more and then started to offer relationship coaching as a service. 

And then things turned around. They started to refer me to their friends and colleagues, mentioning how much I'd helped them in their relationships. And suddenly the number of my clients increased to the point where it doubled. All this just because I started to focus on having a niche: relationship coaching. 

Today - and for the past 10 years now - I am working full time as a coach and I am consistently fully booked. And for the past few years, I've even started to have a waiting list that never decreases.

Of course, I've continued to train myself and add more skills to my existing toolbox. Now I don't even need to have just one niche anymore. But the most extraordinary thing is that I've never had to really try to advertise through directories or other expensive means ; clients keep coming to me because they are referred by my existing or past clients: this is the real secret to get your business flourishing.
